Weight loss surgery is not for everyone

Weight loss surgery is a major decision. It is not a quick fix, and requires a lifelong commitment to diet, exercise and medical follow-up. This surgery is a consideration only for patients who meet strict clinical criteria. Obesity and obesity related illnesses such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular disease and several forms of cancer, are increasing at alarming rates. Following weight loss surgery, patients experience improvement in obesity related illnesses, and the risk of early death is diminished. For seriously obese patients who have been unsuccessful in nonsurgical weight loss methods such as diets, medications, behavior modification, or exercise programs, weight loss surgery may be a life-saving intervention. In other words, for many patients, the potential risks from not having the surgery may be greater than the risks from possible complications of having the procedure. For me the weight loss surgery was best for me because I wanted to be around for myself and my family in the future I am thankful each day since surgery I have never felt better in all my life.
